The last weekend in October turned out to be classic UP October gale conditions around the south shore of Lake Superior. The lake was mesmerizing with the gusting NW winds keeping the waves building. No gleaming sun to be had today, just the reality of a truly steel grey sky, man it's been a cold autumn. Pics below are from Sat Oct 28 as I stumbled upon the Duluth/Mpls crew surfing some smackdown barrels... It was really quite amazing to watch how these guys handled some of these fast closing barrels,, persistence of tackling the next wave was much appreciated especially from a photographer's point of view. It was dark enough for headlights, got the best shots I could considering. These Lake Superior surfers make ocean surfing look like a cakewalk... Will add some sequences to this page if I get time.
