LakeSuperiorPhoto BIO

LakeSuperiorPhoto's beginnings are typical of most photographers- we see the beauty around us and want to share it with others. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Lake Superior Region have a unique beauty in the landscape that rival many other beautiful destinations in the world. The wild nature of the UP is what is so beautiful about it; it calms and relaxes the spirit. As photographers, we strive to find subjects in the best possible light to make our images come to life. We try to replicate as well some of the emotion of the moment, as so typically found in the areas of  relatively undeveloped Upper Peninsula Lake Superior regions.  One of the comments we've received about our work pretty much sums up what we try to accomplish: "your photography puts me there.....It's just like being there".  Most recently, some of our newer work feature contemplative scenes on the abstract side that are so much so, it seems hard to believe these natural moments actually do occur.

Malone Photography travels the midwest from May until December exhibiting at fine art shows. A large selection of our work is available for purchase at these shows.  LakeSuperiorPhoto offers fine art prints for your home or office and all creation is done in house by our own hands from start to finish. Our finished pieces are either on fine art canvas wraps with a protective UV Lacquer or on fine art wood mounts with a durable UV laminate overlay. Prints only are offered on fine art cotton paper for the widest gamut color reproduction possible.

LakeSuperiorPhoto.com maintains a stock database of 10,000+ images of the Lake Superior Region. Our images have been published locally, nationally, and in some instances, worldwide in calendars, books, magazines, newspapers, phone book covers, brochures, billboards and websites. Examples of recent media publication include Canadian Geographic, Canoe and Kayak, The Surfer's Journal, NBC Torino Olympics coverage, USS Olympics Media Guide, Lake Superior Magazine Calendar Cover 2007 and 2008, Lake Superior Magazine photography feature, NASA, Sierra Club,WLUC TV6, WDIV TV4 for Pontiac Arts Beats and Eats 2009, Kewadin Casinos, McDonalds, Traverse Magazine, NMU, Marquette Convention and Visitors Bureau cover 2009, Art on the Rocks Poster Art winner 2006 and 2007, AT&T phone book covers 2004/2005/2007 for Marquette, Houghton, Ironwood, and Escanaba, and downstate Michigan cities.

LakeSuperiorPhoto uses all camera formats, from our Canham and Crown Graphic 4x5 systems, to our vintage 1970's Rollei medium format system.  Many of our northern lights images were taken with 35mm Nikon cameras and lenses as that's what we were using at the time.  Where shlepping large format gear is impractical or impossible, we lighten up with our Canon 5D Mark II equipment with with EF IS prime lenses.  Digital has allowed us to capture spntaneous and otherwise "uncapturable" events; however there are many instances where digital "isn't yet there" and film still is preferred exclusively to record the widest possible dynamic range of light and dark.
